Syfy is asking fans to pick their top ten favorite Startagte SG-1 episodes in preparation for an upcoming marathon. The network will air ten straight hours of SG-1 on Sept. 25 starting at 8 a.m. EST. There are 10 seasons worth of episodes to choose from, but I'm guessing the marathon will be packed with eps from the early Richard Dean Anderson-heavy seasons. I'd love to see the series' hilarious, self-aware 100th ep, "Wormhole X-Treme," end up in the marathon.
What's your favorite SG-1 ep, and are you looking forward to seeing some of the old crew members appear in Stargate Universe?

Whenever I think about a question like this one episode always comes to mind rather quickly: Heroes. This was the two-part episode from season 7 (SG-1's last great season) that featured the unfortuante death of Dr. Janet Fraser. Like no other episode, this one really brings home the sacrifice made by men and women serving their country, not to mention their loved one, while still maintaining its sci-fi roots.

I agree one hundred percent with you on the twin episodes entitled "Heroes". It stands out above almost all of the other episodes from the series and it points out that the true heroes are the people behind the soldiers on the front lines that don't carry weapons! If it is not one of the top ten, then I feel true fans of the show missed one of the great episodes of the series!! It was sad to lose a great character in Janet Fraser and we don't get to see her very often on other shows! She added something that RDA and the others just could not add. She will always be missed after that episode

You are right heroes (1 and 2) was the best episodes. I loved Janet Fraiser and it does prove that the real heros arn't always the ones on the front lines carrying weapons. A hero can even be an Archeologist like they showed on the episode Merdian when Daniel sacrificed his life to save Jonas's homeworld.
i want to be an archeologist! =)

Yes! "Window of Opportunity", is one of the best episodes from SG-1. Teal'c, getting hit by the door was great.

'Full Circle' was by far the most fun, well rounded SG-1 episode. A perfect bookend to the original movie. Plus it was fun to see Daniel as a quasi Obi Wan Kenobi. After that, I think 'The Pegasus Project', 'Avalon', 'Beachhead' & 'The Fifth Race' all rock the house.

Oh, so many to choose from: Singularity, Holiday, Legacy, The Fifth Race, 1969, Urgo, Window of Opportunity, Wormhole X-Treme!, Meridian, The Changeling, Fallen, Lifeboat, Threads, Moebius Pt 1 & 2, Ripple Effect, Arthur's Mantle, 200, The Shroud. I actually had to cut down my list, and I'm not sure I could cut it down further.

"True heroes" can take many forms and yes, they do not need weapons.
Speaking as a soldier serving in the NV Army National Guard and currently deployed to Afghanistan, I can say a few things about combat and heroes, too much to be said here but I can say this about that episode in specific.
I two liked that two parter. It was very touching and meaningful. She was important part of the show and the team. Our Medics here are very important to us, even though each day we hope they will be the most bored and unemployed soldiers in the company. This war being what it is though, we arm them with a hell of a lot more then just a 9mm.
Another key point of those episodes, besides illustrating the self sacrifice of Janet, was the way in which the media was handled. It is very common for all media type to be thought of as, for lack of a better phrase to sum up the sentiments I have encountered, as self serving, immoral, lying, unpatriotic evil bastards. I thought they way in which the SG personel at the base treated them was reflective of that attitude. Yet in the end, (I dont remember his name) the lead reporter gave that wonderful speech about the proper role of the news media, getting the truth out and not hiding it like many dictatorships accross the globe do. Seeing him not portrayed as an evil sterotype was refreshing.
Other great episodes include 1969. An early episode to be sure but fun and really helped to establish the roles of the team members. Although in later shows, Col. O'neil's love of astronomy and underlying intellect was often ignored.
The 5th race also stands as a wonderful story advancing episode. It introduces the Asgard and the technology of the Ancients. This one episode setup multiple episodes that followed it throughout the series.
100 days I think stands as a very unique episode, featuring mostly Col. O'neil. Unlike many of the shows, it focused not on fighting an adversary like the Replicators or G'oauld but instead focused on the side of him we don't get to see often. His relationship that developed with (again, dont remember her name) the woman was the central part of that Episode.
There were too many good episodes throughout its long run but those should be included in any marathon
