Now that District 9 has successfully opened number one at the box office (during a very busy weekend) with $37 million, it's time to start talking sequel. And it's not like director Neill Blomkamp and producer Peter Jackson will have to force one either, since the film (without spoiling anything) sets up its follow-up beautifully toward the end. With buzz still real high and whispers of Oscar nods beginning to make their way around the internet, it shouldn't be hard for District 9 to reach between $70-90 million, which would make this small-time, no-name, foreign-made movie a huge success considering its budget was somewhere in the $30 million range. As far as sequels go, Blomkamp is totally game. Here's a quick summary of his latest quotes on the subject:
"I would do anything to go back to the world of District 9 again. Or District 10." -- EW
"I'd love to make a sequel, because it's so creatively rewarding to me; there's just something about [the story] ... It's my background mixed with the science fiction that I loved. I'd really like to go back to the world of DISTRICT 9 -which, without Sharlto's character, would be a very different kind of movie. So I think automatically the two of us will be reunited again, should the public decide that this film is something they want to see and it's successful." -- Fangoria
Well, it's clear the fans want a sequel ... so long as it doesn't stray too far from the essence of this first film. Last thing we'd want is some big, shiny star-studded alien attack movie that sacrificed originality for lots of explosions and half-naked alien chicks. Or maybe you do want that?
What would you want from a District 9 sequel?

I won't spoil the end, but we're set up for a couple of options:
A.) Attack o' The Prawns. More, less broken down spaceships, mech suits, splodey-guns, and "LIBERATION!!!!"
B.) Prawns rebel w/ what weapons they have and lay siege to Joburg and the rest of the country.
C.) We find out that the original ship was coasted to Earth to hide from a massive intergalactic war, which is about to spill over into Sol.

I agree with the oscar buzz but i cant imagibe a way to sequal that movie without tarnishing the first. I think this is a case where fans should hope it ends with District 9.

It's simple. The three year promise is kept, except that the Prawn (Koobus) comes back as the human Wikus. He has spent the last three years training himself to be Wikus, but in reality, his only goal is to find Wikus and transfer Wikus back to himself. Koobus finds himself in many terrifying situations, including answering questions, having a relationship with his supposed wife, etc. Every chance he gets, he is on the search for the real Wikus. In the end...of course...the transformation takes place, Koobus gets to return home, and Wikus's father-in-law is found for what he really is.

Well first it should be revealed where the main charcter guy has been hiding.
Then obviously the aliens need to be liberated.
Then the guy needs to be transformed back to human.
Also a few things that didn't make sense need to be addressed. One example is that obviously time is a factor in the main character's mutation, yet then the alien says he'll come back in 3 years.
Am I missing something or won't the guy already be a full prawn by the time the alien gets back?
When the alien dropped the 3 year bomb the dialogue seemed to conveniently over look this minor detail.
I just hope they clear it up.
Not quite sure what producer Blomkamp meant when he said "without Sharlto's character". Sharlto's character along with the aliens is the whole point of the movie and what we want to see.

@ frank at the end you see him making that flower the prawn that is the main character he is now a prawn and at the end it said nobody knew where he was and thought secret government captured him but i would bank my money on that is the main character the prawn making the flower and sent it to his wife who received it on her doorstep; this majkes sense due to the rpawns are totally scavenging all of the time! not affectionate like a human would be as he is inside " mind " wise if you get me lol
Brilliant movie! 10/10 cant wait for a sequal which WILL come :)
