Apparently the boys are hammering out the details for a fifth installment of the Indiana Jones franchise. Harrison Ford says that if the script is good he'll come back. But does that mean anything? He put on the fedora for Indiana Jones and the Space Invaders and that took the franchise in a direction it didn't need to go.What's next? Indiana Jones and the Flying Saucer of Anal Probing? Indy and Mutt are abducted by aliens and brought on board their spaceship filled with ... snakes! The Jones boys must escape the clutches of the aliens by swinging from Indy's whip into an escape pod and make their way back to Earth with the alien's plans for planetary destruction so they can give them to Randy Quaid, who'll fly his plane right into the aliens' ship and blow 'em all up while Will Smith sheds a tear.
Damn, and I thought they couldn't top the fourth one. If Indiana Jones is going to come back, he needs to return to his mystical roots and leave the aliens for someone else to play with. ET II: Extra-Terrestrial Boogaloo maybe. What would you do in the new movie?

Should they be aloud?
Who are we to judge such things?
Its a pretty ego-maniacal way to title a posting - should you be aloud to write about such things?
Just saying

I don't know.. a magical knight, holy graal, an actual box that melts peoples faces.. is aliens really that different? An old culture worshiping aliens, instead of an old culture worshiping a "god" that makes them rip out hearts.

I liked the film and am seriously getting sick of all this bull
It's a pathetic realization of today's fandom when they become so jaded and self absorbed that they think they can come up with something better than lucas or speilberg.
In all honesty, people who assert their hatred over this film are morons.
The science fiction over fantasy. In all reality why is this such a god damn big deal. The concept of aliens and their impact on ancient culture is interesting. This obsession that Indy HAS to only be religious objects is crass and moronic on the greatest level.
Furthermore, both the hidden city and alien intervention on human society were relevant in the film's time period. Also he found the arc of the covenant, beat an evil indian cult and recovered the holy grail. There isn't much more religious shit to do. The mummy and a lot of other films did greek, roman, and egyptian mythology, mesopotamian stuff is not really that conducive to adventure storytelling. Anime has done eastern mythology to death. National Treasure and Dan Brown did masons and illuminati. And for south american, i'm more up on their folklore and culture than a lot of archeologist and let me tell you, there really IS nothing that can be turned into film fodder unless you are really willing to go R rated and really violent. To keep religious, you are going to really have to dig deep to find anything that hasn't been done before or is even interesting.
As for the leaps in logic (nuke the fridge, rainforest fight etc.) complaints. REALLY? and you didn't think indy surviving hanging to a UBoat's periscope from egypt to malta made sense. or surviving a fall from an air plane in a raft. or shooting ow the tail of the plane your flying and survive?
Idiots who deride this film are morons on the grandest level. They are so obsessed and have given so much of their lives to these films that they become pathologically convinced that these people made movies just for them. They are so conservative in their obsession that any deviation from form is considered sacriledge. They just want the same thing over and over again. Anything else is evil to them.
To people who think that way:
You are not important, your opinions and feelings on the film's direction and content do not matter and the whole of the world is not in agreement with you. You are just a bunch of pathetic losers (this coming from a guy who wants to be science fiction writer and film director! I IZ DAZ UBERGEEK!) who seem to band together in a vocal minority to spew their noxious fumes over the internet.
If you spent any time with your eyes open you can see what the indiana jones franchise really is. It's a group of films that set out to lampoon the films of the time they exist in. the first indiana jones films take place in the thirties and early forties and thus lampoon the adventure serials of the time. All the conventions, (map lines, rolling boulders, religious artifacts, allan quartermain rip offs etc) are from that serial genre.
Indy 4 takes place in the 50s, a time dominated by teen rebel flicks, anti-soviet propaganda, espionage and intrigue pictures and, most of all, scifi B movies. And thus Indy 4 sets itself in a universe where all these things exist and then proceeds to satirize them all.
Looking deeper, the film, despite some noticeable green screen and sets (though I think that was intentional) and a spoiled plot point, is technically proficient and fairly well directed in terms of action, camerawork, set and art design, and visual characterization. Its well developed and well plotted and well acted and has a perfectly suitable ending. And Shia LaBoeuf actually was pretty entertaining in this, unlike his annoying gig on transformers.
If this weren't an Indiana Jones movie and Lucas' name wasn't plastered all over it, you would all be acting like it was the greatest thing ever.
Learn a little humility, people. These people (though I question Lucas without someone to reign him in) are more talented and more capable at storytelling than you, your complaints and your fan fiction could ever do.
It's not religion people. Just enjoy it for what it is, a purposely silly (just like all the rest) adventure film that intelligently pokes fun at movies and society of a certain time period.

You really need to focus on what you are trying to say or else you are going to have some serious continuity issues in your work. If people don't like something you can't correct their opinion, it would be like me telling you that you are a completely worthless waste of space in thinking that Shia LaBoeuf actually was pretty entertaining in Indy 4 and wasn't the biggest downfall of the film. There was no point in saying that to you because that was your opinion and opposing your opinion is not going to change it and anyways you have your right to your opinion and to disagree with others. However, YOU really need to show some humility especially if you are going to want people to respect you and your writing/directing. Good luck with your work!

I liked Indy 4 too... sure, it had some lame moments, but most of it was classic Indy (especially the beginning!). And yes, the aliens were no different than the Grail, Stones, or Ark. I'm all for an Indy 5. If anything the last film showed, is that Ford can still pull it off.

All I'm reading here is: whine, whine, whine. It's their franchise. They can do whatever they want with it. Maybe Indie and Mutt will give up adventuring and open a doughnut shop. Who knows. But until the movie is written and made, it seems a little premature to start getting upset about it.
