ShiaLabeouf

y the last man movie scriptLast week, we heard some rumblings about the possible film adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan's brilliant comic, Y: The Last Man. The news mostly centered on whether or not Shia LaBeouf would star as Yorick, the film's main – and only – man. LaBeouf told Collider that he and director D.J. Caruso are in no hurry to make the film and that the script is "not ready to be shot." LaBeouf did assure fans that he still wants to make the movie, and that creator Vaughan would probably wait until he and Caruso are free to move ahead with the project. So when can we expect to see Y hit the big screen? Caruso is currently working on Jack and the Giant Killer, and it looks like LeBeouf will be busy acting in other films through 2010. If all goes to plan, I figure the first publicity shots for the film should hit the Web around summer 2011. If we're lucky.

I'm really looking forward to this flick. Y is an amazing comic full of rich characters, great humor and action. Plus it has a pretty clever sci-fi concept: What if every male mammal on Earth, except for one man and his monkey, died on the same day? The Web site Bleeding Cool claims to have gotten a hold of Vaughan's early script for the film. They say it's a very early draft that has likely already gone through a number of changes, but their script review might still be worth a read.

I wouldn't recommend actually sitting through Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen to anyone. But in the abstract -- after you've been through the horrifying experience -- there are parts of the film that are so bizarre that the whole thing starts to look like the work of some sick, Andy Kaufman-esque jokester genius. And then it becomes kind of interesting. I mean, some of this stuff can't be for real... Can it?

1. Megan Fox's first appearance. See above. That is the first shot of Megan Fox in the film, as she works on a motorcycle in her family's garage while taking a call from boyfriend Shia LaBoeuf. Makes sense, right? Or do you not typically mount your motorcycle in that fashion, wearing knee-high boots and denim hot pants, to do some body work? If not, why not? Hysterical -- though I have to say that Michael Bay's leering at Fox throughout the movie eventually becomes a little uncomfortable. And if you didn't think it was possible for a director to leer at his star with the camera, Revenge of the Fallen proves you wrong.

2. The enormous Bad Boys II poster in Sam's dorm room. If it just appeared on someone's wall at a point in the film, that would be one thing -- a little arrogant, but not really notable. That's not what happens here. The poster for Bay's Bad Boys II -- presumably belonging to Sam's motormouth techie roommate -- is enormous, and fills the screen on at least two occasions. The self-regard is astounding. Has a director ever put in product placement for his other work in a movie before?

In this newly released extended clip from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Sam (Shia LaBeouf) accidentally turns his kitchen into a robotic version of Gremlins. What actually happens is all of Sam's kitchen equipment come to life when he drops a fragment of the AllSpark, and then they attack the poor kid. Tell me the little sounds those mini Decepticon robots are making don't sound exactly like Gremlins. Is this a nod to that film, or just a coincidence? You decide ...

Discuss: Who would win in a fight: Gremlins or mini Decepticon robots?

Though he'd be a good fit for the role, Shia LaBeouf recently admitted that the part he'd play in that planned Y: The Last Man adaptation would be a little too close to what he's been doing for Transformers, and, well, dude would like to mix it up a little. Here's Elisabeth Rappe reporting from Cinematical:

Hey, now I can care about a Y: The Last Man movie again! (Harsh, but true -- I cannot tell a lie.) After months of being linked to D. J. Caruso's adaptation, Shia LaBeouf is apparently uninterested in taking the titular role.

LaBeouf told Wizard that it's too similar to his Transformers character. "You take Sam and you put a monkey on his shoulder. "I don't know if it's that big a differential. It seems like he's the ordinary guy in an extraordinary situation again. I'm not willing to make that movie currently, and may be too old to play the role by the time it does come around."

Discuss: With Shia out of the picture, who'd be a good replacement? (And don't say Zac Efron again, mom!)

Cinematical has just received five brand new exclusive images from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which drops its powerful big-budgeted rear end into theaters in just about a month from now. While the studio managed to slip in a sexy, full-body, leather-clad biker-girl shot of Transformers co-star Megan Fox (making it near impossible for this writer to ignore), I decided to change things up for this special exclusive and, instead, feature the film's hero, Sam Witwicki (Shia LaBeouf), alongside his trusty companion, Bumblebee. Check out all five exclusive photos in the gallery below.

Directed once again by Michael Bay, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen finds Sam heading off to college like a regular kid who doubles as a robot fighting maniac (and the boyfriend of the very adorable Mikaela, as played by Megan Fox). However, when Sam learns the real truth behind the ancient origins of the Transformers, the Decepticons drop in to pay him a big, nasty visit. Can Optimus Prime and his Autobot friends save the day again? Watch the latest trailer over at Moviefone, see more photos below (check out art from Linkin Park's Transformers single, New Divide over here), and catch Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen when it hits theaters on June 24.
