Transformers2

Like we'd let you begin your weekend without sharing this amazing information first. Yes, Paramount Home Entertainment has, in fact, announced the street date for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen on DVD and Blu-ray. Come this October 20th, you'll be smacked around by an assortment of special features on each version -- features that come equipped with odd names like Seeds of Vengeance, Domestic Destruction, Start Making Sense (my personal favorite), Deconstructing Visual Bayhem and Giant Effing Movie. You also get some commentary from Michael Bay, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, as well as a host of other exciting pieces of "Heck yeah!".

Check out the complete list of features after the jump. Oh, and there's also some stuff in there about winning a sweepstakes that will transform your garage, and details on how to snag a three-dollar (!) coupon from Papa Johns pizza.

It may be breaking records while it approaches $600 million at the box office, but Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is also the proud owner of new record that's not exactly the type to bring up for bragging purposes. According to a scientific equation that's way above my head, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is now the worst reviewed highest grossing film of all time. This according to Slashfilm, who took the time to calculate box office totals divided by Rotten Tomatoes scores and God knows what else to come up with a list of films that all grossed an insane amount of money, but at the same time were blasted by critics everywhere.

Here's their top five:

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
Box Office: $607.7 Million (so far)
Rotten Tomatoes: 19%
$/%: 31.9

The Da Vinci Code

Box Office: $758.2 Million
Rotten Tomatoes: 24%
$/%: 31.6

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
Box Office: $961 Million
Rotten Tomatoes: 45%
&/%: 21.35

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Box Office: $1,066.2 Million
Rotten Tomatoes: 53%
$/%: 20.11

Shrek The Third
Box Office: $799 million
Rotten Tomatoes: 42%
$/%: 19

Discuss: Do these gems deserve to be among the worst reviewed highest grossing films of all time?

With Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen approaching the $600 million mark at the box office, making it the second film behind The Dark Knight to do so this fast, we thought it might be fun to take a look back at how this all began. Obviously we're already well aware of the ongoing feud-of-sorts between Michael Bay and Megan Fox following a little he said/she said full of fun, moronic quotes (get caught up here and here).

Now, though, Page Six tells us just how Megan Fox nabbed the role in the first place. According to them, when Michael Bay auditioned her for the first Transformers, he actually made her wash his Ferrari while he filmed the whole thing. Yup. She washed his car. His Ferrari. While he filmed her. And that's how she got the role in Transformers. If you need anymore proof of just how perverted Hollywood is sometimes, look no further than Mr. Michael Bay. Oh, but it gets better ...

Apparently this video exists somewhere, though no one knows where it is. (Um, have you checked Bay's sock drawer?) Fox says she doesn't know what happened to the footage, and when Page Six asked Bay, he said he didn't know what happened to it either. Me wonders whether there was something a little more ... hmmm ... erotic on that tape? Maybe it's stuck between the cushions of Bay's casting couch? What do you think?

I know I get a lot of sh*t for writing about Megan Fox all the time, but the girl is a quote factory and quite possibly the best interview out there right now, regardless of what films she's been in or how good her acting is. I like her because she's honest, and she tells it like it is without being afraid of some anxious publicist off screen. She doesn't give a sh*t because she doesn't have to give a sh*t -- people will need her and want her no matter what she says or does ... and that to me is fascinating.

While on the Early Show this morning being interviewed by a hornball three times her age (watching him attempt to flirt is almost as funny as the actual interview), Fox opened up and revealed a bombshell (okay, not really): that after watching the movie and reading the script, she still doesn't know what the hell Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is about. She even goes so far as to say that if you do know what it's about, then you're a genius. "This movie is for geniuses," she says. Well, it's a movie for someone (just passed $400 million worldwide at the box office), that's for sure. Who? I have no idea.

With his film due out in a couple of weeks, Harry Potter is beginning to make some waves. First up is an update on the Potter IMAX delay. Long story short, Half-Blood Prince won't be arriving on IMAX screens the same day the film hits conventional theaters because of a deal IMAX made with Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen for an exclusive four-week run. However, three theaters will be getting Harry Potter in IMAX on opening day, July 15th, but if you don't live in New York, Los Angeles or Chicago, you're out of luck. Collider tells us those three theaters are as follows: Century City IMAX (Los Angeles), Henry Crown (Chicago), and AMC Loews Lincoln Square (NYC). The first 12 minutes of the movie have been converted to IMAX 3D, and so I'm sure it's worth the trip for those who live in the surrounding areas. Unfortunately, everyone else will have to wait another two weeks.

But with a little so-so news comes some very cool news. The Independent reports that British actor Bill Nighy has finally nabbed himself a role in a Potter movie after once suggesting that he was the only British actor who hasn't been in a Harry Potter film yet. Nighy notes, "I don't think I'm allowed to say it but I'm going to be in the next Harry Potter film. I won't say which character, but he's a goodie. I just got the gig." Though he's been itching to nab a Potter role, Nighy also admits to not having read the books: "Not yet, but I will!" he says. "It's rather like being in a Shakespeare that way, you know?" Look for Nighy to appear in one or both parts of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows when they hit theaters on November 19th, 2010 and July 15th, 2011, respectively.

Discuss: Okay Potter fanatics, who do you think Nighy is playing?

Did you skip out on Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen this past weekend in order to avoid all the long lines and screaming Optimus Prime fanboys? Are you questioning whether or not to shovel out ten bucks for a ticket after reading all the negative things said about the movie online? Are you hoping for someone to come along with a brilliant one-minute recap of the film that you can use as a tool to help persuade your final decision? Well, you're in luck -- someone has gone through the trouble to piece together an extensive (but non-spoilerish) recap of Revenge of the Fallen for those who want to delve a little deeper into the mythology and ponder the deep psychological questions the film tackles during its two-and-a-half-hour runtime. Enjoy!

let the right one in remake

Welcome to Captain's Log -- your (semi) daily round-up of sci-fi randomness from around the web. Here's what's happening today:

- Cloverfield director Matt Reeves talks about adapting the Swedish vampire flick Let the Right One In for American audiences. He promises not to turn it into Twilight.

- What's Joseph Gordon-Levitt got to say about the G.I. Joe movie? "[It] has nothing to do with reality. It's really just about being an archetype." Excited yet?

- The Internets apparently chose Terminator's Summer Glau and Smallville's Kristin Kreuk as the top contendors to take over Angelina Jolie's job in the Tomb Raider franchise. I think the two geek-friendly stars should settle this with a televised cage match.

gundam giant robot japan

The Japanese are kicking America's ass at building giant robots based on awesome fictional characters. You've heard about their 60-foot Gundam in Odaiba. Now they're building a giant Tetusjin-28, a.k.a. Gigantor "the Space-Age Robot." (Word is he'll be built turning his pointy noise up at our giant robot-less shores.) So here's a question: When are America's nerds gonna get off the couch and build their own unnecessarily large but awe-inspiring tribute to R2-D2 or Optimus Prime?

I'm talking to you, extreme cosplayers, sci-fi obsessed techies and artists, and nerds willing to max out their credit cards at Home Depot. And especially you, Tom Rhodes, the California dude who made an 18-foot tall OG Bumblebee Transformer out of a Volkswagen Beetle. You've got the touch. You've got the power. Now let's make a giant frakkin' robot that puts Japan's to shame.

- Here's more evidence of Robert Downey Jr's awesomess: The dude reportedly saved an extra from rampaging robots on the set of Iron Man 2 over the weekend.

- Michael Bay' second Transformers movie made $201.2 million, the second-largest amount over a five-day period after The Dark Knight. Also, it's awfulness made me sterile.

- A sci-fi-tinged comedy with Tina Fey, Jonah Hill, Louis C.K., Jennifer Garner and starring/written/co-directed by Ricky Gervais? You must watch the trailer for The Invention of Lying and read more after the jump:
