sci-fi babes fix johansson saldana
Empire has released its yearly list counting down the 100 sexiest movie stars in Hollywood. Since Jason already pointed you to Inside TV's list of hot chicks in sci-fi, I decided to comb through the Empire tally to see if any of our favorite genre-friendly actresses made the cut. I was doing research, you see. It's my job. Really.

I wasn't surprised to learn that seven fantasy/sci-fi starlets topped this year's list, with Transformers' Megan Fox landing the number one spot, followed by Angelina Jolie (Wanted), Emma Watson (Harry Potter), Scarlett Johansson (The Spirit, Iron Man 2), Zoe Saldana (Star Trek), Natalie Portman (Star Wars), and Kristen Stewart (Twilight).

The full list, ranked by Empire readers, is lousy with babes known for steaming up the big screen in sci-fi flicks. Head after the jump to see some of our favorite vote getters.

Though it's still early and a script hasn't even been written yet, early reports online claim Michael Bay may want to kill off Megan Fox's character in Transformers 3 within the first 15 minutes of screen time. Sources for In Touch Weekly (via popcrunch) say that Bay is "considering writing Megan out of the series in a gory death scene in the first few frames of Transformers 3 and replacing with another gorgeous young actress." They go on to add (from their source): "Michael's pretty much discovered Megan and now he's very quietly looking for her replacement. He hasn't decided if he's going to kill her off in the next movie, but he just wants to be prepared."

To me this sounds like complete and utter nonsense, which may in fact be more spin from Bay's camp, or just something someone randomly made up in order to get more traffic to their site. Amidst Bay and Fox's recent verbal boxing match, I can see how the director may have joked about killing her off in the first scene, though the studio knows how important she is to the franchise and I can't see them agreeing to a move like that since they won't have the obligatory 47 still images of Fox to send out in advance of the film's release. Instead, look for Bay to get his revenge by sticking her in even more obscene outfits while making her bend over in every scene.

Then again, I wouldn't be against a gory Megan Fox death scene in the opening moments. Knowing that was coming might just get me to watch the third installment. You?

With Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen approaching the $600 million mark at the box office, making it the second film behind The Dark Knight to do so this fast, we thought it might be fun to take a look back at how this all began. Obviously we're already well aware of the ongoing feud-of-sorts between Michael Bay and Megan Fox following a little he said/she said full of fun, moronic quotes (get caught up here and here).

Now, though, Page Six tells us just how Megan Fox nabbed the role in the first place. According to them, when Michael Bay auditioned her for the first Transformers, he actually made her wash his Ferrari while he filmed the whole thing. Yup. She washed his car. His Ferrari. While he filmed her. And that's how she got the role in Transformers. If you need anymore proof of just how perverted Hollywood is sometimes, look no further than Mr. Michael Bay. Oh, but it gets better ...

Apparently this video exists somewhere, though no one knows where it is. (Um, have you checked Bay's sock drawer?) Fox says she doesn't know what happened to the footage, and when Page Six asked Bay, he said he didn't know what happened to it either. Me wonders whether there was something a little more ... hmmm ... erotic on that tape? Maybe it's stuck between the cushions of Bay's casting couch? What do you think?

I know I get a lot of sh*t for writing about Megan Fox all the time, but the girl is a quote factory and quite possibly the best interview out there right now, regardless of what films she's been in or how good her acting is. I like her because she's honest, and she tells it like it is without being afraid of some anxious publicist off screen. She doesn't give a sh*t because she doesn't have to give a sh*t -- people will need her and want her no matter what she says or does ... and that to me is fascinating.

While on the Early Show this morning being interviewed by a hornball three times her age (watching him attempt to flirt is almost as funny as the actual interview), Fox opened up and revealed a bombshell (okay, not really): that after watching the movie and reading the script, she still doesn't know what the hell Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is about. She even goes so far as to say that if you do know what it's about, then you're a genius. "This movie is for geniuses," she says. Well, it's a movie for someone (just passed $400 million worldwide at the box office), that's for sure. Who? I have no idea.

Welcome to Captain's Log -- your (semi) daily round-up of sci-fi randomness from around the web. Here's what's happening today:

- Here's more evidence of Robert Downey Jr's awesomess: The dude reportedly saved an extra from rampaging robots on the set of Iron Man 2 over the weekend.

- Michael Bay' second Transformers movie made $201.2 million, the second-largest amount over a five-day period after The Dark Knight. Also, it's awfulness made me sterile.

- A sci-fi-tinged comedy with Tina Fey, Jonah Hill, Louis C.K., Jennifer Garner and starring/written/co-directed by Ricky Gervais? You must watch the trailer for The Invention of Lying and read more after the jump:

I wouldn't recommend actually sitting through Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen to anyone. But in the abstract -- after you've been through the horrifying experience -- there are parts of the film that are so bizarre that the whole thing starts to look like the work of some sick, Andy Kaufman-esque jokester genius. And then it becomes kind of interesting. I mean, some of this stuff can't be for real... Can it?

1. Megan Fox's first appearance. See above. That is the first shot of Megan Fox in the film, as she works on a motorcycle in her family's garage while taking a call from boyfriend Shia LaBoeuf. Makes sense, right? Or do you not typically mount your motorcycle in that fashion, wearing knee-high boots and denim hot pants, to do some body work? If not, why not? Hysterical -- though I have to say that Michael Bay's leering at Fox throughout the movie eventually becomes a little uncomfortable. And if you didn't think it was possible for a director to leer at his star with the camera, Revenge of the Fallen proves you wrong.

2. The enormous Bad Boys II poster in Sam's dorm room. If it just appeared on someone's wall at a point in the film, that would be one thing -- a little arrogant, but not really notable. That's not what happens here. The poster for Bay's Bad Boys II -- presumably belonging to Sam's motormouth techie roommate -- is enormous, and fills the screen on at least two occasions. The self-regard is astounding. Has a director ever put in product placement for his other work in a movie before?

Those fans all up in arms over the planned big-screen Buffy the Vampire Slayer remake will either find comfort or disgust in learning that Joss Whedon was offered a chance to reboot his own original idea, and he turned it down presumably after already learning his lesson on the first film. Entertainment Weekly reports the news alongside direct quotes from Whedon and a poll announcing that only 3% of EW readers would want to see a new Buffy movie without Whedon in charge.

Says Whedon, "I believe [the producers] did ultimately reach out to my agent after the news broke. I think that's something better left untouched by me. So, I wish them luck."

It's funny, too, because this time around I feel Whedon would've had more control over the movie and I imagine he would've produced something cool and scary and bloody and found a way to get Neil Patrick Harris involved, too. Without Whedon, though, we'll probably get a more generic vampire movie that won't stand out from the pack unless they cast someone like Megan Fox in the lead role -- and while that rumor is certainly flying around, there's no way she'd sign on to do this. She's not the right type for a vampire slayer named Buffy, anyway.

Then again, who is?

Welcome to Captain's Log -- your (semi) daily round-up of sci-fi randomness from around the web. Here's what's happening today:

The Museum of Modern Art in New York City will be holding a Tim Burton exhibition from November 22, 2009 through April 26, 2010 that will feature a gallery exhibition and a film series. The MoMA website says they will feature "artwork generated during the conception and production of his films, and highlights a number of unrealized projects and never-before-seen pieces, as well as student art, his earliest non-professional films, and examples of his work as a storyteller and graphic artist for non-film projects."[MoMA]

More for artsy New Yorkers: From July 10th through July 16th, Film Forum will be screening a new 35mm print of Ridley Scott's Alien. Showtimes daily are 2:00, 4:30, 7:00 & 9:30. If you're anywhere near New York and you're a fan of Alien (who isn't?), then I'd take this opportunity to see the film on the big screen. Tickets will be available beginning July 3rd. [Film Forum]

Jay Baruchel told MTV that Jay and Seth vs. the Apocalypse will go before cameras within the next year and a half. Originally, Baruchel and Seth Rogen shot a trailer for the film that Rogen and his writing partner Evan Goldberg (Superbad) wrote together with the hopes that someone would fund it, make it and put them in it. Well Mandate Pictures secured the rights, and they've got the all clear, but because Rogen and Goldberg are so busy with The Green Hornet, it's being shoved to the back-burner. I'm dying to see this flick; their very NSFW trailer can be seen over on YouTube. [MTV]

Welcome to Captain's Log -- your (semi) daily round-up of sci-fi randomness from around the web. Here's what's happening today:

For some odd (and hilarious) reason, Todd McFarlane thinks he can get Leonardo DiCaprio to star in a new Spawn movie. Only DiCaprio wouldn't be playing Spawn; instead, he'd be the guy chasing Spawn. McFarlane compares the film to everything from Jaws to The Godfather. Keep dreaming ... [MTV]

Battlestar Galactica star Richard Hatch spoke to Moviehole about the potential big-screen movie, saying he thinks Universal should take a cue from Paramount's Star Trek reboot. He thinks they "should go further back" in time for the setting, like the recent Trek film, and even admits that the show ain't done yet. ""It's never the end if fans want more. It's a money game. If they realize people want more, believe me, they'll make more of them - they did it with Babylon 5, and a number of other sci-fi shows. Battlestar is not done yet, it's just a question of how and when it'll come back.'' {Moviehole]

Though the first Kick-Ass film won't arrive in theaters until next year, Mark Millar is positive a sequel will happen -- so much so that he's already plotting one out. He tells SciFi Wire, "Kick-Ass 2 is already being plotted out. "We're planning it, because all the actors are quite young and we have to make it relatively quickly. So we'll definitely do that inside the next 18 to 24 months." [SciFi Wire]

There's a rumor going around that Megan Fox is on the shortlist to star as Buffy in a new Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie. I'd say the chances of that happening are slim to fuggedaboutit. [CineFools]

The first spy pics of Josh Brolin as Jonah Hex have arrived online via Lainey Gossip, and while we're sure some special CGI effects will be added later to make Brolin look even meaner and nastier, these images pretty much prove that he's the right man for the job. Adapted from the popular comic series (with supernatural elements), Jonah Hex is a Western comic book anti-hero who's reminiscent of Clint Eastwood in films like Man with No Name. He's a tough-as-nails bounty hunter who's known for the giant scar on his face (which is why Brolin looks like he's sporting some serious acne issues).

Jonah Hex -- which follows Hex as he tries to track down a voodoo practitioner hell-bent on releasing an army of the undead -- also stars Megan Fox, John Malkovich, Will Arnett and Michael Shannon. It's due in theaters on August 6, 2010. Check out images of Megan Fox in full costume over on Cinematical, and a larger version of the image above down in the gallery below.
